How to decide if you want to rent or buy in Oahu
Before you decide to buy, it is wise to consider all of your options, including renting or living on base. Renting a home on Oahu is pretty easy, but pricey for what you get compared to most mainland housing options. Depending on which side of the island you choose to live on (see suggested areas here- map with opinion on where to live), your rental rates will vary.
Here, you will be able to find a variety of local housing options, from studios to large multi-family homes.
Once you have determined what a home will rent for in the area you want to live in, then
you’ll want to compare prices of homes for sale in the same area, with the same condition and amenities. You can do a quick search on our website- CLICK HERE - to determine what is available for sale in your desired area.

For me, it always helps to talk these things over with someone who has expertise and experience in a particular market. If you’re the same, I am always happy to review numbers, locations, or just “talk story” with you as well.
